Writing Horror

Lately I haven’t being writing much, so I decided to go through my pile of shelved stories and books.  What prompted me to do this?  Well, before I became a writer I had a small group of close friends with whom I engaged in almost daily conversations.  After I decided to be a writer and shared some of my stories with them, I noticed they became distant. I attributed this to life. We are all busy with life. But then someone asked me “ Where do you come up with these stories? They’re a tad violent!”  At the time I didn’t put too much thought on the question until a few weeks ago when I read another writer’s dark stories.   See, I am not capable of watching horror or scary movies without having nightmares for weeks.  I prefer comedies, children movies (Puss in Boots is my latest favorite children’s film) and romance. I’m sensitive and kind or so I’d been told. So, when I started reading a virtual friend’s work it clicked! This virtual friend (You know ...

Charity

Hey all! I hope you are having a happy beginning of the week.  Last week the hype about “Kony2012” or “Stop Kony” was extraordinary. The film is actually from 2006 and since then something has changed. He has not been in Uganda for a number of years...   However, the needs and atrocities in Africa and other countries are still there.  I’d like to share with you some charities I help from time to time and that might be in need of some exposure. It makes me happy.  As usual you can do your own independent research on any of these organizations.  I do not endorse any of them individually and my post is just to inform you and maybe encourage you to help not only Invincible Children but other non-profit organizations. We take for granted so many things that are difficult to make or build and some charities help bring or develop these kinds of items in poor countries. ...

Read and Write Spirit

During the past twelve weeks I’d seen and marveled at how technology rules not only in social media and publishing but in encouraging young adults to write and read. It’s nice to see tweens and teens using technology not only to socialize but to read and find their ‘writing spirit’ as well. For the most part YA literature is written by adults with a fascination for ghosts, vampires, fairies, high school crushes and anything to do with the tribulations we go through our teenage years. Now in days we see more talented young writers express their feelings by putting it in a novel. Fresh from the tribulations of teenage-hood. It’s refreshing to see this trend and I hope this continues to grow because it gives us “adult writers” a window to the past and inspiration for the future. One of these young writers’ is Saga Berg; she is the author of Nordic Fairies. From the moment I read the blurb I became intrigued with the story of Svala and Viggo. The author was kind enough to send me a copy ...
