Smothered Muse


I am a new writer living in the United States. For years I have been saying I want to write for a living, but have never really done anything about it. Until now…I started seriously writing in 2009 but not until recently decided to take a leap and dip my toe in the cold waters. And Oh boy are they cold!! :) I understand it takes years of practice to master the art of writing. And it takes longer if your first language is not English. But it can be done. And the best part is? It’s a lot of fun! 

 Many times I find myself chasing away my muse by doubting myself. Sometimes I see her peeking from around a corner and I feel like grabbing my pillow and smother her because I don’t feel I’m ready to put my stories in paper. And if I do write a few lines I spend hours editing and perfecting them so much that I end up throwing them in the garbage can. I have a great deal of respect for writers and bloggers. Their commitment and passion to sit in front of a computer screen and write it’s admirable. I’m new at this and I hope I can entertain many of you with my writing as well as learn and perfect my craft  I have been reluctant about using social media. Believe it or not, I do not have FB, twitter, etc. Is it lame? Can a fan base be formed without these tools?

Read and Write Spirit

During the past twelve weeks I’d seen and marveled at how technology rules not only in social media and publishing but in encouraging young adults to write and read. It’s nice to see tweens and teens using technology not only to socialize but to read and find their ‘writing spirit’ as well. For the most part YA literature is written by adults with a fascination for ghosts, vampires, fairies, high school crushes and anything to do with the tribulations we go through our teenage years. Now in days we see more talented young writers express their feelings by putting it in a novel. Fresh from the tribulations of teenage-hood. It’s refreshing to see this trend and I hope this continues to grow because it gives us “adult writers” a window to the past and inspiration for the future.
